Welcome all and we hope you have had a lovely week. We warmly welcome you to our zoom services and look forward to seeing you and worshipping with you on Sunday.
There is an Order of Service for our zoom services sent out to you with the Zoom link (also available on our website www.ascensionkentonnewcastle.co.uk). To join via computer or telephone. You can access zoom via a browser (zoom.us – you will need to allow microphone access and dial in using internet audio – video is optional – though we’d love to see you) or by downloading the app on your phone/tablet/computer.
As we remain in lockdown restrictions, we firstly hope everyone is safe and well. While churches are permitted to open for worship, we have made the decision to move back to our own zoom services while we are in lockdown. We are advised to stay at home and to act with extreme caution. As such, we didn’t feel it was right to encourage gathering in our church for everyone’s wellbeing.
PCC
PCC if we could please meet on our zoom (stay on our call) after the service at approximately 10:10am as we have a couple of matters that need to be discussed.
Sunday School
Sunday school will follow this week’s service (24th January), on this zoom at 10:30 for anyone wanting to join us. Resources have been either dropped off if you have been in contact or are available to download on our website blog page for this Sunday school by Friday 22nd January. Please do share this information with anyone who may be interested – if we know in advance, we can cater our sessions to suit the age groups attending.
Messy Church Online

Almighty God, whose Son revealed in signs and miracles the wonder of your saving presence: renew your people with your heavenly grace, and in all our weakness sustain us with your mighty power; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen
1st Reading Revelation 19:6-10
Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:
“Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.”
(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.)
Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”
At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”
Gospel: John 2.1-11 – Jesus changes water into wine
On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”
“Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”
His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.
Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
